This book was written for men but I read it, I enjoyed it and I learned from it. After the first few pages I was already drawn in. It helped me get a better perspective on the way men might think of themselves sometimes and alot of the situations in the book applied to women as well. Very well written David Kortje.
I just finished The Heroic Path yesterday. David really speaks to the wounded heart of men (like me) who have experienced failure, whether that be a minor failing or something catastrophic. He understands the centrality of the heart to our Christian experience and zeroes in on what is required for true healing and restoration. Every man has experienced failure, and every man suffers from a wounded heart. This book is a must read for all of us. I have already ordered two more to give away, and I'm sure I will be ordering more.
This is a page turner.Speaks well to men's issues. I see myself on many of the pages. The Heroic Path encourages my walk while dispelling the myth that I must be perfect.. all things to all people. Wow. My unassuming personal physician is such an eloquent spokesman. This book's perfectly illustrative anecdotal stories, both biblical and modern, set the tone of this tome. This is a no-holds-barred revelation of the insidious nature of the enemy's ability to undermine God's plan for Christian men and their destiny unless they are informed of their adversaries attempts to discount them and God's plan for them. Self assessment and subsequent reaction is required of all serious readers. The casual reader could read this in 1 sitting. The serious reader could easily take 6 months to fully implement the changes that the author inspires.
The read is entertaining and informative while the content is heavy and life changing. High art accomplishes that aesthetically while this book accomplishes that rationally.
This physician/writer/minister is not only saving my physical life, he is leading me to fulfilling my spiritual life--as he could for you.

The Heroic Path by David Kortje
I begin this book review by making a confession. The Heroic Path is a book that I have known about way before it ever saw the light of day as the same publisher that I used to breath life into Holding On Loosely has published it. The anticipation in me was therefore built over time and I am glad that I finally got to read this masterpiece, as it didn't disappoint.
The Heroic Path is a book that invites into a place most of us, especially those who are in the Church are afraid of and avoid like a plague yet so many of us experience. The place I am speaking about is Failure. Through this book Kortje demonstrates that failure does not have to be the end of our lives but instead it can be the richest learning ground we ever travel through. As you read the pages of this book something shifts within you as you begin to see that the shame and guilt that attached itself to your failings is totally unnecessary and it is in fact robbing you of a great opportunity that it has simply come dressed in overalls and looks like hard work.
Like all of us I have had some huge mountain size failings in my life. Yet, as I read the pages of this book these failings once again were positioned in the light and place where they belong and that is as a lesson to be learned that I may not only succeed next time it comes around but better yet I will be able to share with others that they may have a chance to know the truth. Failure is part of every successful journey and as such it must embraced in the same way as we embrace winning. Kortje shares this in a very skillful way that doesn't necessarily come from writing several books but instead from a heart that has experienced failure, survived by the grace of God, and a heart that has been aware and open enough to learn from its mistakes.
The Heroic Path is a book everyone needs to read. Whether you are a Leader, Pastor, believer, congregation member, Doctor, CEO, athlete, or just a ragamuffin like me. It will help you to clarify that in this life if we are ever going to be OK, is when we learn that it is OK when things are not OK around us as we are simply learning to understand that when we FAIL we are in a perfect position to Find Answers In Life

I love this read because it not only focuses on human weakness but offers solutions to be victorious. I recommend this book to all Christians. I like the life examples used to drive home points and the thought provoking questions posed at end of each chapter.
I would like to deal with you in the future. this book really helps me in my personal study. I like it!!!!!!!!!
